Bollywood Time Travel

Having read many blog post series like Bollywood for Beginners by @filmigirl I have also been wanting to start a series of posts from a long time, also wanted a reason to update the blog regularly. Then an idea came after reading @rajasen’s post of his 100 favorite hindi movies. I thought why not blog about my favorite movies, but instead of making one list I should post year wise. So starting from I’ll be regularly posting my favorite movies from 1960 till now. I’ll try to keep the list to a minimum of three per year, but there will be years where the list might come lower than that or I might even have to skip some years since am a 91 born. But I hope that the probability of that happening  stays low. The movies in the list will be purely on based on the fact that how much I enjoyed them and even after many years of watching them like to watch them again. Now as a database I’ll be using IMDB and Wikipedia’s list of movies according to the year. So, if there is any mistake in the release year do tell me and also do tell me If I had missed any movie or a movie which you thought deserved to be on this list.

Top of Tops: Most Awaited Movies of 2011

Another year has started and with that there’s a whole new line of movie up for release. Among this huge number of movies there are certain movies which I am eagerly waiting for. So here is a list of 10 movies which have got me fascinated the since the moment I’ve heard about them.

(Movies here listed are listed in the order of tentative release dates)

No One Killed Jessica: Am sure everyone is acquainted with this movie. One of the biggest things about the movie is that even after revolving around two women the movie is not a chic flick. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta (Aamir fame) the movie looks like a promising Drama.

Release Date: 7th Jan

Dhobi Ghat: The fact that I’ve been following the development of this movie since past 1 year is enough for me to put this movie in this list. Its first promo blew me up. I guess this would be an Aamir Khan movie which won’t be like an Aamir Khan movie.

Release Date: 21st Jan

7 Khoon Maaf: It’s a Vishal Bhardwaj movie, need I say more. Other than that movie’s story line which includes Priyanka Chopra marrying 7 guys and murdering all of them makes for a “killer” concept. Plus there is Vishal Bhardwaj’s musical score. I guess I have given enough reasons to watch out for this movie.

Release Date: 18th Feb

Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara: A director who previously made “Luck By Chance”, a star cast which includes Hritik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Kalki Kolchein and a new Spanish hottie. Ok I know Katrina Kaif is there too but …… never mind. Touted to be a road trip the movie appears to be an interesting buddy movie.

Release Date: 27th May

RA.One: Shahrukh Khan doing an action movie after 5 long years. A superhero flick, the movie is said to have some great stunts. Plus being a big SRK fan it has to be in my list.

Tentative Release Date: Diwali weekend

Don2: A sequel to the Farhan Akhtar movie, the movie has new inclusion of Kunal Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Hritik Roshan in a special 20 min role which includes a one on one combat sequence with SRK.

Release Date: 23rd Dec

Reema Katgi’s untitled next: The movie is a cop thriller and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee and like always Aamir has got a new look with moustache this time.

Tentative Release Date: Christmas Weekend

I Am: The movie has already received accolades in various film festivals. An episodic movie it deals with issues like Section 377, sperm donation, child abuse and Kashmiri pundits. With an ensemble cast which includes Juhi Chawla, Sanjay Suri, Nandita Das, Rahul Bose, Manisha Koirala this is one movie which will be going to something special.

Release Date: Unknown

Gangs of Wasseypur: Anurag Kashyap’s next epic movie based on Bihar coal mine workers. The movie will be made in 2 parts with 18 songs. The movie will star Manoj Bajpayee, Piyush Mishra, Shabana Azmi and more. (Info by @nautanki)

Release Date: Unknown

Kahaani: At first I wasn’t excited about this movie as it was said to be a remake of Kill Bill with Vidya Balan doing Uma Thurman’s role. But its real story made me interested in it which is about a 6 month pregnant lady searching for his lost husband in streets of Kolkata.

Release Date: Unknown

So you just heard about my expectations from 2011, tell me about yours. I would love to know them.

4 Popular movies I hated

I strongly belive a good movie is a matter of perception, different people have different choices. There are many cases when a movie is not liked most of the people but you might love them and there are also cases when people love the movie but you tend to hate them e.g. My mom didn’t like Rang De Basanti and my Bua hates Munnabhai M.B.B.S. on the other hand our very own @filmigirl loves Tashan. Similarly there are many popular movies which I have hated and here are 4 movies which top the list.

(In no particular order as I hate all of them with same amount of disgust)

Fanaa: I still remember dragging my friends forcefully to watch this movie and also remember that despite the fact that we were 15 mins late we went to watch the movie. My friends still curse me for taking them to watch it and I don’t blame them. The movie’s story wasn’t that bad but the way it was executed was really awful. I remember the scene when Rishi Kapoor accidentally falls from the cliff, I know it was meant to be a thrilling sequence but it brought me into splits. And the less said about the acting the better, every time Aamir uttered those 3rd class shayari’s I cringed and his mamu jaan was more of a joker than a villain, the only saving grace was Kajol who as always was a dream to watch but alas! she wasn’t enough to save the movie for me.

Love Aaj Kal: Another movie I dragged my friends to watch and  I know God won’t give me mercy this time. I could sum up the whole movie in one word BORE! The Deepika-Saif track was so horrible that even the sweet sepia story wasn’t able to uplift the movie for me. Deepika as usual can never say a word without that absurd style. That dialogue to Rahul Khanna “Hamare beech kuch atak gaya hai” was so unintentionally funny and the sequence in which Saif realises he actually loves Deepika was the biggest WTF!! moment of the movie. Seriously Imtiaz stick to rom-coms!!!

Devdas: I strongly believe that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the most over-rated director ever. He might be able to churn out good performances (read Black), but when it comes to story-telling he falls flat. This movie had every thing going against him except Madhuri. Ash shrieked to her fullest, SRK hammed it up to T (a daring thing for me to say that), screenplay was snail paced, his changes made very little sense, I can go on forever. This movie SUCKED so much that it can give porn stars a run for their money in sucking department.

Vivaah: I don’t like Ekata Kapoor type serials so it’s obvious that I won’t like this movie. I mean where the hell in this whole UNIVERSE do u find such people who are either white as milk or black as bat??? I know a lot of people of people who love this movie as it was about good sanskaars n all that stuff but I just want to say can’t it be shown in a better manner I mean why those OTT dialogues and toooooooooooo good to be true charachterisations. Even the music was pathetic with tunes that are so outdated that even Prithivi Raj Kapoor would hav found it old fashioned.

Dis-Honourable Mentions: Dhoom 2(The only movie in the history I fell asleep in between), Gadar, Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani.

This is completely personal opinion feel free to disagree. Tell me your own choices will love to know about it.
